COLLAGE AND THE CREATIVE PROCESS WORKSHOP

ART STUDENTS LEAGUE OF NEW YORK ONLINE

In this 6-week online workshop, participants will explore collage as a powerful form of artistic expression.  Using images and photographs collected from their own sources, participants will learn how to create hand-cut paper collages with personal meaning.  Following a four-step method, participants will practice observing their natural tendencies with curiosity and enthusiasm.

This zoom class will include lectures, demonstrations, individual feedback, and group discussions. Participants will immerse themselves in art making, while at the same time becoming more familiar with their own creative process. Embracing the power of stepping back, managing perfectionism, and welcoming the unexpected, the course will cover inspiration, planning, composition, and final adjustments.

Participants will be introduced to the instructor’s philosophy, “The Psychology of Collage,” which explores collage as a metaphor for memory and identity. In addition, participants will be encouraged to consider the historical, contemporary, and personal relevance of this versatile medium.
